The problems creating neck pain are completely different than those creating back pain. Most people believe the same problem is at the roots of both because they both involve the spine. The truth of the matter is the spine is reacting to other forces acting on it.
So let's address both separately by giving you a couple little tests.
Let's start with your back pain. Lie down on your back with legs outstretched on the floor. Rest there for 30 seconds sensing whether your back pain gets worse or better. After 30 seconds, bend your knees to bring your feet close to your behind, resting on the floor. Rest there for 30 seconds.
Which felt better, knees straight or knees bent? If your back felt better with knees straight then you have a problem with your back flexing too easily or too much. If you felt better with your knees bent (as most peoples' backs do) then you have a problem with your spine having too much extension. It's simple to fix both of these conditions with a few exercises.
Next, let's talk about neck pain. Here's another simple test.
If you have right-sided neck pain or headaches, then place your right hand on top of your head. Make sure your head doesn't side-bend or rotate to make this happen. Rest there for 20 seconds. If your pain diminishes then it is likely caused by the shoulder blades sitting too low on your trunk. There are muscles that attach from the shoulder blades directly to the neck and skull which irritate them when the shoulder blade sits too low. This is also easily correctable. I’m a physical therapist who specializes in treating difficult chronic pain conditions and am very successful at it. The principles behind these tests can be found in my books. I’ve also posted two tests for neck pain and one test for back pain on YouTube, if you’re interested.

Most headaches and neck pain are due to the shoulder blades sitting too low on the trunk. There are muscles attaching from the shoulder blade directly to the first four neck vertebrae and skull. When the shoulders sit too low, these muscles then pull on the neck bones and skull causing neck pain and headaches.
Here's a quick, simple test to see if this is the case with you. If you're having right-sided neck pain or headaches, raise your right hand and place it flat on top of your head for 20 seconds. Make sure your head doesn't side-bend or rotate to achieve this. If your pain diminished after this test, then your scapula may be sitting too low causing your discomfort. This is easily correctable. This is also the culprit in diagnoses such as thoracic outlet syndrome and carpal tunnel syndrome.
Regarding upper back pain, I've found this is also typically attributed to poorly functioning shoulder blades.

I would love to visit a chiropractor for my lower back pain, but it is an option that is simply not financially feasible for us. THe one thing that I can afford, and helps so much in alleviating my aches and pains is a natural cream from Topricin. It is a pain cream...and it is wonderful! I am so happy that I do not have to rely on oral pain meds so much! THanks, Caroline

I have to say that I agree with the fact that we (Westerners) have only recently begun to see how psychological factors can attribute to disease, and that I am so happy that finally "we" are realizing this! My husband has had severe lower back pain for many yrs now that he has just learn to live with. It is unfortunate how costly it is too to see a chiropractor for treatment. Our family loves natural solutions and treatments, and we have found a pain cream that we just love! We use Topricin for all kinds of aches, pains and even bee stings! It works so well and helps with inflammation. Maybe he should also look into acupuncture? Sounds interesting.

Of course I don't think less of them, and I certainly don't think I'm stronger than them. Childbirth is a great ordeal, with or without drugs. It's a matter of preference, really.

Why in the world would I think any less of them. It's not like you are any better or anything if you go without pain relief.Either way baby gets here,so it doesn't matter.I would NEVER judge anyone who decided to get pain relief.Yes I had an epidural. It speed up my labor & made it very managable.I don't regret it in the least. It also didn't hurt my child. Why have pain when you don't have to is how I look at it.If you wanna go all-natural,by all means go for it.But don't belittle or judge other moms who don't want to go that route. You aren't any better than them or vice verse. There are risks with just about everything in life.My child was also not "lethagic" for the first week lol.He was bright eyed and alert seconds after he was born & wasn't "stoned' :) Can't live in a bubble.

I didnt get any... I wanted it to be as natural as possible. Thebaby receives all the medication the mother gets and I didn't really want that for my son.

But I think its a personal decision... I guess some women think they need it...

I dont think any less of them at all nor do I think mothers who choose no pain relief are stronger. I went all natural, at home births. My pain relief was positions and it worked wonders. But for some women thats just not the best choice for them. I think making the right choice for you and your situation is what makes you a strong mother.
